Default Possible future comic

Hey, I've been wanting to try my hand at the comic thing for a while now, but haven't been able to get a style developed that I liked, up until now. I thought I'd post my first "test comic" sort of thing to see what kind of reaction I get from viewers. I'm not looking for someone to tell me its beautiful, I'm looking for whether or not it would be good for an easy-to-draw comic.

Note: I did not make the background (as you may have noticed), it is a modified in-game screenshot.

Thank you for your responses.

Alrighty, I've got my second work up. I've been busy and haven't gotten around to working on this in a while now. I've reduced the shading a bit in this image, as well as gave the characters a bit more action. At the moment, there is no background, I'll be working on trying to draw one soon. Also trying to figure out how to do speech bubbles. Anyway, here it is:

But you shouldn't try to make 2d characters + 3d background. Stick to all 2D, ignore 3D unless you KNOW how to draw it. I've seen only 2 comics in 3D and one (was) good, after 2 years the writer closed it.

I don't agree with the above comments.
I think 3D+2D can work out just fine. You're not making an artwork after all, you're making a comic. I've read webcomics which consist of simply cut-and-pasted 3D characters (always in the same pose) on 3D background, and I've read some with 2D hand-drawn characters + 3D background and they are often a LOT better than those with 2D+2D or 3D+3D.
It really is all about content, as in storyline, sense of humour, use of language and physical impressions on the characters. Especially because you chose the style you did I'm guessing you want to try making a comic which isn't "serious", one which allows a lot of humour and a less important storyline.
If this is the case, it (obviously) doesn't matter so much whether it looks good when you look at each frame as an independent piece of art. You're not making Marvel after all.

I think it looks good. I really like the shading and I think you've managed to make the characters look a part of the surroundings to a greater extent than many other, successful, internet comic-artists.

Characters are cute. I think you are way overdoing the shading though: pull back some. The Gear Trick series used a lot of 2d characters over 3d backgrounds.

With that said, your characters are just kind of standing there. It's hard for people to judge that and it's not fair to you to get bland opinions. Make them do something -then ask for judgement.

Cool, thanks for the opinions guys. I'm still playing around with what I want to do, so I'll try out some of these ideas. The reason I opted to use a screenshot background was simply the fact that I was too lazy to draw one last night =P. On my next project, I'll definitely do some more poses. These guys were actually the third and fourth full characters of this style I had drawn. And yeah, I'll spend a little more time looking at the shading, I actually had cut off a whole layer of shading on these because it was too dark. After I get a couple more test drawings out, I'll start working on scripting.

Oh, and also, does it look weird that the old guy doesn't have arms? I was considering keeping that as a style, only drawing arms when I needed to, but if it is too strange to do that, I'll use the excuse that his arms were under his cloak.

I think your characters look really cute =D but i agree with Derrick, a bit too much shading.

I think the character design looks good, simple yet possibly effective depending on how well your comic series plot or dialog will go By the way, it didn't really bug me that the old guy doesn't have arms, I can tell its a cloak and I'm just used to seeing some quirky looking comic figures.

Very nice! I too don't mind the 2D characters in a 3D background. The 2nd pic is so true, my girl plays an Ele and she absolutely hates Sins in PvP.

Keep going!

Hey, thanks for commenting, glad you're approving of them =)
So, I dunno when I'd be able to have a website to host these things, so for now I guess I'll be posting them here as I make them.
Also, at this point, I don't intend to stick to a schedule for making comics, they'll come when I make them. Sorry if this breaks anyone's heart.
